Title needed

I have a teacher who is looking for the name of a story about a very
poor boy who made toys from bits of wire and old pieces of metal.  She
thinks the title starts with Gu.....  Not much to go on.  Any help would
be greatly appreciated.  If you know where I could get a copy of this
story, please include that info.  Thanks.
