REF: Brigadier General Jacob Smith

We are attempting to find basic biographical information (birth, death,
family, location, etc...) on Bragadier General Jacob Smith from the
Spanish/American War.  We have looked in DAB, Webster's Bio. Dict,
Americana, World Book, books on the S/A War, some Internet searching and
are coming up empty. He was the General involved with the Burning of Samar
and was court martialed towards the end of the war.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
