Interesting that this should come up now--I just mended two books today for the first itme in a longtime. I am generally in favor of mending if a minor repair will really put the book back into serviceable ( and reasonably sturdy condition. It depends on how the book was originally bound, too. When I was interning back in the early 90's, my cooperating librarina lent me a video from one of the mending supply companies, and then together we mended a stack of books that had been waiting. Worked fine! I do think one needs direction, though, and I know such mundane things do not appear in any MLS curriculum--gotta' catch a workshop or something. But if someone out there knows of the video, I'd love to buy it. Maureen S.
