We have an extensive microfiche collection, but are only keeping and =
adding periodicals which are not available full text. =20

We belong to a consortium and have been discussing the problem of =
microfiche reader printers at a time we find we are using them less and =
less but we have holdings including periodicals from the 1920s. All of =
us find that our machines are aging. We are considering depositing all of =
our holdings in one library which would be responsible for faxing articles =
students wanted.

What do you think?

Hi, I am a new librarian at Jr. Sr. High School (grades 7-12) in New
Hampshire. I have inherited a past and ongoing issue with the maintenance
of our microfiche machine (it will read but continually has a printing
problem). We currently have a print collection of periodicals dating =
back
10 years, access to Electric Library, and Article Express which is a
document delivery service provided by our State Library. My question is
how do you feel about the continued value of the use of microfiche when
periodical literature is accessible through many other sources? My sense
is not to repair it, but I do not want to make a rash decision and seek
your experience, opinions, and help. Thank so much...........
