Monitoring LM_NET was a requirement in three of my classes while I was in grad school at the University of Oklahoma. I began monitoring in 1995 and have been a "junkie" ever since. I believe that it gave me the opportunity to see that I was not the only person facing some of the same challenges and it allowed me to ask questions, voice my opinions, and learn from others in the process. I agree that utilizing the Archives is the best way to start the search and it is very important to let others know what you've done so far. For those who don't wish to respond or feel that they don't have the time, the delete key is available; however, it is unfortunate that we are not offered the wisdom of those who feel that they don't want to respond to issues because it appears to be "a dumb question" that anyone should be able to answer. Sometimes the best tool to success of ourselves is the continual reminder from those who have walked the miles and have had the experience from which to draw. I have yet to gain the wisdom that many of you have at this time. The older I get, the more I feel that I don't understand nearly enough about my profession. I may offer suggestions, provide resource ideas, or direct, but I still feel that there are others who really know and understand the research process. You know the resources! I appreciate all of you for your efforts and I applaud you for helping us all. For those who are just beginning, I wish you luck and I support your efforts! I remember those days as a new librarian and I sometimes long for them! You will have a wonderful time learning your profession and you will inspire and awe many in the process. You will be given the title of "information guru" or "knowledge keeper" and, in time, you will humbly note to a few close friends that you don't know everything but you certainly are willing to help others locate the information they need....that is what makes a great librarian! Assist others in the effort to locate information and never forget from whence you came. (....off my cloud) Shonda Brisco Assistant Professor / Librarian Mary L.
