We should buy a copy for each student, because the authors depend on the royalties from sales for their livelihoods. The problem is that computer software is easily copied, whereas books are not. When someone borrows a computer program, it is very easy to just leave it on the computer. That is what creates the problem. If the computer would just delete the program automatically upon exiting, we'd be home free. Hmmmmm, maybe some company will come up with a "library edition" that would do just that?
