Following the remarks of another LM_NETer about happy familymodels in
fiction, I'd like to add to the book suggestiopns the novels of Helen
Cresswell about the Bagthorpes, starting with Ordinary Jack (I think)
and continuing through many stories of this humorous, eccentric, but
basically happy and stable English family.  For the 8-12 year old set or
great for reading aloud. I too think it's good to see strong families in
books.  Might give a kid a model he can keep in his or herheart.  Also,
though the books are much more serious, the family in  Mildred Taylor's
Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry.
