Hi there, we are a small library about to automate for the first time and I am expecting a package of about 9000 barcodes some time soon. I was hoping to use parents to help me get the barcodes on the books. Now I'm wondering about how the process works. What happens to the barcodes that belong to books that are not on the shelves but in some teacher's classroom? Does one just hold on to those until the books get returned? And then what about books that are on the shelf that have no barcodes (for some reason--sloppy inventory probably, or maybe they are copy 2 or 3 of some book)? Do I pull those books out and then handle them at a later date? Or not pull them at all and just wait until someone wants to take them out and then add a barcode? But that can't be enough because the record won't be in the system. I'll have to take the time to create a record at some point. The question is when? If anyone has any answers or advise--please help.
