For illustrating the concept of onomatopoeia, I use Ghosts Hour, Spooks Hour, by Eve Bunting and The Spooky Old Tree (I think that is the correct title) by Stan and Jan Beranstain. Both are really geared for a younger child than 5th grade but still, they teach the concept so I use them for older kids too. Nancy T.
