mold can also infest an entire collection if temperature and humidity are just right. we had a mold outbreak when we moved into a new library with too much humidity. we had to close for 2 weeks and wash every book with clorox/water. we've continued to have trouble from time to time. moldy books can also be dangerous for people who are allergic to mold. at the least, the mold can make them sick. it can be much worse for someone severely allergic. a moldy book should be replaced, and you should charge full replacement price. the book is ruined, so stamp it "withdrawn" and give it to the child. if he (or his parent) wants to keep a moldy book for his own use, that's fine. it just doesn't belong in a library. lynda hendrick, librarian f. c. weinert elementary seguin (TX) isd lhendrick@seguin.k12.tx.us =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
