Thanks to Mary Jo and Marge for sharing this website with me. It gives some
real basic info and covers from the 60's through the 90's.

1960s and others

Several others suggested:

visiting my local library (I was looking for something EASY!) and checking
in old newspapers;

a book called The Value of a Dollar (which my local comrade Jean Gustafson
so graciously let me borrow);

And several others suggested the dmarie site...make sure you use the 'quick'
page, not the 'advanced', to get prices:
