Lets try this hypothesis on for size:

In the first year or two of classroom teaching, a certain number of people
either wash out or decide they don't really care for teaching. If someone
has years of teaching experience, he or she has already gone through that
test of fire. If someone starts out in the library media center, that is
where the test happens and the failures or decisions are made.
