I didn't get my comments in in time for the HIT, but thought I would add what we do. Each child K-2 has their own personal shelf marker made from construction paper. Before we laminate them we put a sticker on it that we have printed from a data base (the sticker is shipping label size) that has their name, teacher and BARCODE on it. For 3rd and 4th graders, we do the same thing but on an index card. All are laminated. Since we are an AR school we are also putting their reading range (ZPD) on it and I have taken to putting I, S, A and a star for when they reach certifications. It sure helps keep track of what levels each child needs and whether they should really be getting a picture book or what length of chapter book. Oh, for the younger children to help reinforce regularly returning their books, they get a sticker on their marker when their library book is returned or not overdue. At the end of the year when they return their book for the last time they get to take their marker with all of their stickers on it home. I have children tell me that they still have their markers at home years later! -- Barb Engvall Library Media Specialist John Campbell Elementary School 408 N. 1st Street Selah, Wa 98942 engvallb@elltel.net =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
