A local foundation is considering funding payment for students who score a certain grade on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT). We are looking for schools who have done the same. What are the pros and cons. Personally, I hate it. But this is not my request. The state of Florida has mandated increasingly rigorous tests, involving all aspects of the curriculum. We have no choice. I simply want to know who is paying students to pass the test and is it working. Yes or No. Please, no comments on the rights or wrongs. I already know the most common answer. One thing that has been eliminated in school evaluations is the dropuout rate. Obviously so, as our dropout rate is increasing considerably. This is not a concern of Florida legislators and our governor, Jeb Bush. FCAT is a false test. Who will be our artists? Our plumbers? Our electrical contractors? I don't want any theoritical diatribes. Simply let me know, at the secondary level, are you paying students to past the test. Is it working or not.
