cataloging

I am wondering what are your experiences of working in a school library
before taking a cataloging class. I am interested in applying for a school
media specialist position, but will not take cataloging until Fall 2002,
maybe summer if offered.

I have my teaching certificate and the other classes that are needed for
certification at the elementary level.

Questions:
1. Can one successfully perform as a LMS without taking cataloging or while
taking it? I do realize that this is only one aspect of the job.

2. What are your experiences with taking cataloging as a summer class(8
weeks, instead of 15)?
