Dear LM-Netters:
I'm not quite sure if this post is on or off topic. I am a
school library Media Specialist but this concerns the
formation of a church library at the church where I am a
member.
We have a room that we have called a library for several
years and the Minister of Christian Education would like to
see it be more like a real usable library. It has become a
dumping ground where people have cleaned out their books
that they don't want to throw away and donated them to the
church.
We met and with me limited library experience (I graduated
last year from Queens College with me MLS) I thought that
the place to start would be with a collection development
policy. She has a vision of what she wants in the library
which would by definition help us to eliminate what we don't
want. The problem is after four years working in a library
I have yet to actually see what a collection development
policy looks like. This is where I could really use your
collective wisdom and expertise.
I would appreciate any assistance that you can give me with
sample collection deveolpment policies. Also if any of you
have any experience with church library ministries that you
could share with me I would be very appreciative.
