According to my book "British Self-taught: with Comments in American" by Norman W. Schur (publ. Macmillan, 1973) --- English gitt, n. (sl.) Occasionally 'gett' and often coupled with a deprecatory adjective, as in "you silly gitt...!" American jerk This is the sense in which the word (with or without 2 't's) is used in HP5. I don't know about any other meaning. -- Joyce Conklin San Mateo Union HS District librarian (ret) San Mateo, CA bkwoman@pacbell.net =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=- All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
