The only way which seems to work for me is to use the bar-coded folder method - I don't really care what issue is missing - I am not going to replace it anyway. We charge for the missing magazine and that is the end of the transaction. I have tried two different ways and neither is that great. Perhaps you can offer a new idea or improve upon these. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks. WAY 1: Add temporary barcodes to the magazines, as needed. POSITIVE: Each magazine is accounted for. NEGATIVE: Many barcodes wasted and time wasted when checking out since time must be taken to add record. WAY 2: Have folders/envelopes with barcodes and circulate various magazines using the 10-20 barcoded holders. POSITIVE: Fewer barcodes used; little waste. NEGATIVE: You don't know exactly what's out or what was lost. (Granted, you probably won't replace the mag anyway) I know you can also catalogue ALL magazines (at least in popular series), but that, again, uses up a lot of barcodes, which I'd rather not waste. ===== Dawn Lindgren, Library Media Specialist Cascade Middle School, Seattle, WA MsLindgren@yahoo.com __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
