I am finding this an interesting thread. We have new Head of School (private school in Hong Kong) and we are given quite specific guidelines on clothing that is an isn't acceptable. Any clothing that shows any underwear (bra straps included) or any part of the body excluding the arms, lower legs and neckline (cleavage is definitely not allowed) is not to be worn. We are to maintain a business / corporate appearance - anything we would wear out with our friends on a weekend casual is not permitted. No flip flops - but smart sandals are permitted. Men have to wear a tie in the winter, but summer this is relaxed (it is very hot here with 95% humidity) We all wear name badges when we are on duty and on the school grounds. For the students we have a school uniform which is enforced and is modest - so we don't have the emabarassing moments of inappropriate clothing. One major plus for a school uniform, I don't think as a parent I could cope with the kids not having a school uniform - it takes away all the unimportant preperation of getting ready for school.
