I find this discussion interesting especially the part about dressing professionally. We do have a dress code ( no jean or sweats unless you teach PE) and have casual Fridays with donations going to a scholarship fund. Previously we were to dress to the code even on days when we didn't have kids. Luckily my very first inservice day I had to make a presentation so I "dressed up" had I shown up in jeans ( well actually I don't own any but a sweatshirt and tennis shoes would have been my attire for that kind of day) it would have gone in my file. The one thing I have noticed is on game days when our athletes are required to dress up, they act much differently. Quieter, more respectful etc. ( and they look so much better) I think that is a good indication of how the way we dress makes an impression on others and ourselves. PS I wear "nylons" nearly all the time ( my husband used to say the world's biggest rip off 3 bucks and you can wear them once before they run!) Can't stand the feel on bare feet in shoes, my toes aren't that appealing and those knee high things are like tourniquets!
