I'd check with the middle school librarians to consider how the elementary program 
ties to their as well as district and state
curriculum needs.

There are a lot of discussions on reading aloud & IL instructional time in the 
archives. Well worth reading hits on 'novel reading,
reading time, and read aloud'.
