Book help

Dear Those-Who-Still-Have-Functioning-Brain-Cells-At-This-Time-of-Year:

A teacher sent me this query.  Does this book sound familiar?  It
sounds like an adult book, but I'm not sure.

"My husband is looking for a book that I have begun thinking doesn't
exist.  It's a book about several
birdwatchers competing in a bird-watching competition.  Supposedly,
it's fiction, just based on a true story."
