We have tried something that has been very successful this year. We are
holding yearbooks of kids with overdue texts and library books. Because we
can't just not give them the yearbooks (the kids have paid for them) they
don't get them until the very last minute of the very last possible day
which means they can't get all their friends to sign them. Getting library
books back is rarely much of a problem for us, but the textbook issue has
been huge (we manage the texts through the library). We often will start a
school year with 6000 textbooks still outstanding. We are at about 2000 as
of yesterday and we still have till next Tuesday to get them back!
