A big advantage of using opt-out is putting internet use on a 'integral
with curriculum use' basis not an optional extra or free time use. Makes
a lot of sense if the library and classroom teachers are developing
online resource pages, especially if the library is providing
subscription databases.

Our secretaries had to spend just a few minutes the first year we
switched, double checking with parents who did sign, to make sure they
realized it was to exclude from use. Most had older siblings and heading
on our first form probably wasn't clear enough. In my MS (1050 students)
we also had none opt-out
