The reason this study has so much appeal for public school folks is because there
is a concerted effort in this country to push public schools toward privitization.
The assumption being that public schools are doing a lousy job and that private
schools (parochial or otherwise) could do the job better and cheaper-- and without
those pesky teachers' unions. This study, if valid, undercuts many of the
neoconservative criticisms of public education and public school teachers. It's
not public vs. private. It is public schools vs. those who would like to dismantle
them.

Subject: Study: Private Schools vs. Public Schools

We can also find fault with all studies. When comparing test scores,
there are many factors that may have been left out. ...

We could probably go around and around about the private vs. public
school argument. ...

I would prefer to see schools work in collaboration with each other
instead of competition. Are we protecting our turf, or working for
students?
