1) The palm version of Scrabble includes a play option where the program
will "automatically show definitions". I believe the same option is
available on the CD-based version.

2) There are basically two different sets of 'acceptable' word lists for
Scrabble... there's the one accepted in US (and Canada?) and one
accepted in International competitions. There's a whole, lengthy
discussion of the topic in the book "Word Freak" which is a really good
read for anyone who enjoys Scrabble:
