I am posting this on behalf of a friend who works in a suburban high school
library. Hopefully some of you will have some great titles to pass on. I will post
a hit. Thanks Darlene

Morning, Friends
I had a student approach me to ask for stories about modern
African-American girls growing up--"just like me". I assured her that
yesindeed, we have many books about African-American teens. As I helped
hersearch, I was embarrassed to recognize that many of my books with
"African-AMerican" as a subject heading were historical bios or dealt
withAfrican-American teens who were facing unwed pregnancies, drugs, etc.
Granted, realistic novels are a big part of any collection, but my
studentwas bewildered with her choices and asked about novels about Af-Am
students who were doing well in school, loved their parents, and were,
inshort "just like her". Any suggestions for African-American fiction
thatdeals with "regular" kids who happen to be African-American? Any help
youcan give me would be great?
