I had an industrious mom who owned a cleaning service offer to clean all my wooden 
shelves.   I'm not sure what she used, but it was some kind of all purpose orange 
cleaner.

It was MONTHS before the bookends - cork bottoms, felt bottoms, rubber bottoms - 
would stay in place!
