LM_NET Archive

Not content with having dragged LM_NET into the controversy over the Higher Power
of Lucky with a front-page article a few weeks ago, the New York Times is now
negatively portraying school librarians in today's sports section. The following is
an excerpt from an article about the New York Rangers hockey game:

"For long stretches, Madison Square Garden fell as quiet as a school library before
Valiquette and the Rangers showed the kind of spunk that they had rarely shown this
season."

The Times does have a Public Editor, Byron Calame, who writes a twice-monthly
column reflecting readers' concerns. Perhaps its time for LM_NET to bombard him
with emails educating him about our profession (see below). His email is
public@nytimes.com.

If you want to contact him about the hockey article mentioned above, it's in the
March 4, 2007, sports section, and the headline is: Lundqvist Gets Rest, and Backup
Saves Rangers.

A Word From the Public Editor Everything readers send to our mailbox will be read
by me or my associate, Joseph Plambeck. If a reply is appropriate, you will hear
from us shortly. If you do not wish your message to be relayed to other editors and
reporters or published, please let us know. When referring to a specific article
please include its date, section and headline.

“When I read about the way in which library funds are being cut and cut, I can only
think that American society has found one more way to destroy itself."
