It is incorrect to assume that ed grads have technology skills that allow for
instruction integration.  Often they do NOT have the necessary skills.  Still and
all, though, even the ones who do have such skills are going to teach students to
begin research with a basic search engine on the Internet.
Librarians have the skills to teach students and teachers and any others who need
to know all about info access.  Every year I find teachers in my building that are
just AMAZED at the teaching skills I possess allowing me to effectively teach
students to use information to gain new knowledge.  They are amazed that I have
little tricks that make digital and traditional print information really work for
students.
I believe that librarians will continue to amaze educators with our array of skills.

While I agree that Librarians will be around in the future, I wish I could
agree that Colleges teach the students about technology as part of education
courses.  In my experience, student teachers often have difficulty using the
technology themselves, let alone integrating it into their teaching
practice.  It has surprised and disturbed me that the so called technology
literate young people know so little beyond using their cell phones and
often have no idea how to plan lessons that integrate technology in such a
way that students benefit from the interactions.  Sad....
