It is incorrect to assume that ed grads have technology skills that allow for instruction integration. Often they do NOT have the necessary skills. Still and all, though, even the ones who do have such skills are going to teach students to begin research with a basic search engine on the Internet. Librarians have the skills to teach students and teachers and any others who need to know all about info access. Every year I find teachers in my building that are just AMAZED at the teaching skills I possess allowing me to effectively teach students to use information to gain new knowledge. They are amazed that I have little tricks that make digital and traditional print information really work for students. I believe that librarians will continue to amaze educators with our array of skills. In my experience, student teachers often have difficulty using the technology themselves, let alone integrating it into their teaching practice. It has surprised and disturbed me that the so called technology literate young people know so little beyond using their cell phones and often have no idea how to plan lessons that integrate technology in such a way that students benefit from the interactions.
