We did something like this last year in my district... well we tried it.

Our director listened to us talking about the need to weed, the overwhelming
feeling, new LMSs expressed anxiety; and so, our director suggestion "guest
weeding."  She devised a list to pair veteran LMS with newer LMS and gave us leave
time to work together.  We were supposed to provide "fresh eyes" to view our
collections.  The vet visited first and provided practical guidance as she weeded,
and she only weeded a section.  I went to an LMC and weeded 800's and 900's.  I
made stacks on the tables nearby and then we went through them together.  We talked
about how it was okay to begin with a full shelf and afterwards be surprised that
only 3 books were left.  Later, she came to my school and I asked her to weed in
the Easy section.  She got through about 1/2 during her afternoon.

The surprising thing was the reactions within our district.  Some LMSs didn't want
another to come and go through their collections.  "No one else is touching my
stuff."  Others just didn't feel like they could give the time to leave their
schools.  Only a few of us actually did the exercise.

While intended to provide support while weeding, the real benefit
was bonding amongst ourselves, validation of our practices and continued
committment to enriching our knowledge base.  I thought it was a good experience,
but that wasn't the majority view.

Weeding is a very sensitive issue.

When I was doing my practicum, my supervising librarian asked me to weed a
section.  However, she gave me some guidelines.  As well, I pulled the books
and put them on a cart.  Then, we went through them together to determine
whether they should really go.  Finally, she showed me how she removed them
from the system, and told me options of what to do with weeded books when I
was done.  I got some really good instruction through this practice.  I
think there is definitely no shame in asking your supervising librarian for
some guidance on what she would consider definite goes and maybes.
