Yes there is such a piece of equipment, and more amazingly it does
work.  We have it and it's called Instant Internet.  We use it on a
Novell network with all IBMs and allows any of the 250 or so networked
computers to use the Internet at any time. While the limit theoretically
is any 50 or how ever many machines you have anywhere on the network,
actually it is about 18 before you see a massive slowdown.

 It is not made by Apple, but I see no reason it shouldn't work with
Apples too.  Our cost at that time (1 year ago) was around $4000.
