To clarify - unless the work was undertaken for the school as part of a person's usual contractual duties, or undertaken for the school as a specific commission in which it was clearly understood and agreed in writing by both parties that the product was be the property of the school, then copyright rests with the creator of the product. In the examples quoted, the parent and the pupils concerned can do what they like with the product, unless the above conditions apply. However, unless the school sanctions any changes, they remain unauthorised websites and they can only continue to use products for which the copyright resides with the school (e.g. logos, photographs) with the school's permission. This does not apply to products that are already in the public domain. (Shades of ASD here, I'm afraid). Hope this clarifies the postion.
