Nancy, I remember reading the book in Kiddie Lit and I don't think it was the swears that most people object to. I think it is more the fact that they talk about the boy's pig copulating and being unable to bare a piglet. I believe the scene where they try to have the pig become pregnant is very bothersome to some. In the end of the book I think they end up slaughtering the pig because it can't produce and the father thinks they should get their money out of it. I'm a liberal parent and have no problem with my own children reading that type of literature at that age but I can see where it would come under fire from more conservative parents. I would probably not recommend it until JH or SH. In fact in our district it is kept at the SH library. -- Tammy Dineen,Library Media Specialist Lomira High School, Lomira, WI tammyd@lomira.k12.wi.us "The coward dies a thousand deaths, the leader only one" =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= To quit LM_NET (or set NOMAIL or DIGEST), Send an email message to listserv@listserv.syr.edu In the message write EITHER: 1) SIGNOFF LM_NET 2) SET LM_NET NOMAIL or 3) SET LM_NET DIGEST * NOTE: Please allow time for confirmation from Listserv.
