I've found that the dumbing down has led to many of my teachers telling students that they cannot use a specific book as a resource - sometimes there are too many pictures, sometimes too few pages, the content is too simplistic, etc.. This then presents the problem that the only "acceptable" books in the library are those aimed at an adult (or at least college age) reader, which is above the heads of some of the students. It certainly makes research almost impossible for many of the ESL students and the 8/9/10 graders. It's a pity that some publisher somewhere doesn't take note of this and start publishing books that are quality non-fiction. They'd make a mint!
