Barbara and Group,

Since you expressed an interest, and I, too, expressed the same interest, I
will share my message to Shaunterria. Perhaps reading the article I
recommend will give you an idea of how "No Excuses" philosophy works in
education. I would like to visit some of those schools that have been so
successful.

My message to Shaunterria (I *LOVE* that name, btw. It's downright musical!)

I've never dealt with "No Excuses University" kind of thinking, but it
sounds interesting. I noticed that in the latest Texas Monthly magazine,
that some charter schools espouse that philosophy and "No Excuses" is their
motto. If you can find an August 2010 issue ("Get Away" with Rockwell
picture of a family in a station wagon on front), on page 104 is a rather
detailed story of charter schools. The article has high praise of a
particular system run by a man from Turkey, The Harmony system. His is, I
think, operated with "No Excuses" philosophy. Although the article praises
charter schools generally, the state of Texas is looking at them more
closely because it says charter schools aren't doing more than the current
public schools.

I don't know about that, but perhaps reading that article can give you
ideas. Also, a friend of a friend said a niece (native Texan) teaches in a
Harmony school in Houston and "she LOVES it!"

I hope as your experiment is successful and that you will keep us posted on
how it's working.
